CHiPPAs Hockey Club

CHiPPAs Hockey Club was founded in 2011 as an outdoor hockey club. The aim was and still is to provide the community of Centurion with a place to come and meet like-minded hockey people. To create a community that has a passion to develop, grow and compete in the Northern’s Hockey League. Over the years the club has grown and adapted to the challenge. We have overcome Covid-19 and continue to build our club back up to where we were before the ‘Hockey Shutdown’. We have 3 men’s teams and 3 ladies' teams that compete in various leagues. We have grown to have 2 ladies’ indoor teams and 1 men’s indoor team that compete in the Northern’s Indoor league that has started up again in 2024. CHiPPAs always look for ways to create opportunities to connect with other hockey clubs in the Gauteng province that compete in different leagues. Whether it be friendly club days or taking part in the Benoni Hockey Tournament.

We are excited to see where this year of transition takes us in 2024.

Women’s teams:

Womens Teams

1st Team – Northerns Premier League

Our first team worked hard in the beginning when CHiPPAs started and worked their way up into the premier league. They have been competing in the premier league for about 10 years. In those years we had the privilege of having some world-class players and coaches.”

2nd Team – Northerns Second League

As CHiPPAs Hockey Club grew with our community there was a need for a 2nd team for the women. They have been competing in the second league for a good 10 plus years. This team has grown and provided development and exposure to the youth. To gain experience and to play at a higher level.

3rd Team – Northerns Third League

As CHiPPAs Hockey Club continued to grow there was a need to provide our community with a third team. They have competed in the third league and have been our most enthusiastic and spirited team of 2023 year. Our current coach is Ceinwyn-Leigh Bolhuis, but people call me Cylie. She’s been playing field hockey for 24 years. She got into coaching because of the passion she has for the sport. She would like to share her knowledge of the sport with the future superstars.

Men’s teams:

Mens Teams

1st Team – Northerns Premier League

Our first team Men’s coach is Steve Smulders. He has been with CHiPPAs since the start. He built up our men’s team into premier league and has put in the hard yards to create a strategy to build and grow our first team men side. He coaches at Cornwall Hill College and coaches the Northerns Blue Men’s B team in 2022. He focuses on building a competitive team and challenging his players. “If something stands between you and your success, move it. Never be denied.” —Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

2nd Team – Northerns Second League

Our second team Men’s coach is Dylan Casey. He stepped up to the challenge in 2024.

3rd Team – Northerns Third League

Our third team Men’s coach is Duncan Anderson. He stepped up to the challenge in 2023. Post Covid-19 we had the challenge of keeping our third team men’s team in the Second league. The third team competed well, however were unable to stay in the second league. Duncan’s strives to bring a competitive atmosphere to the team and bring out player potential. He is driven by a passion for hockey and as a coach wants to share this passion with the players. He currently coaches at Curro Hazeldean the boys first team.
